Digital Boost for Beauty: Empowering Beauty Professionals to Stay Ahead and Embrace the Making Tax Digital Changes

As the UK government’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) initiative approaches, beauty professionals across the country are being urged to prepare for a new way of managing their accounts. Launching 02 February 2025, the Digital Boost for Beauty campaign aims to support hair and beauty professionals to transition from paper-based bookkeeping to digital systems—or unlocking the potential of software they may already use—to streamline tax and bookkeeping processes.

The hair and beauty industry is renowned for its creativity, with professionals dedicating countless hours to perfecting their craft, making customers feel great, and running busy salons or independent businesses. However, when it comes to managing accounts and tax submissions, many professionals find themselves overwhelmed or lacking the time to keep up.

Under the new MTD rules, which take effect in just over 12 months, self-employed individuals and small businesses will need to file updates quarterly rather than annually. While these submissions will be simple, the process requires access to up-to-date data. For beauty professionals, this means adopting digital tools that simplify bookkeeping, support accurate tax estimates for tax pots, and help avoid missed deadlines.

“My goal with Digital Boost for Beauty is to empower beauty professionals to embrace the digital transition with confidence,” said Ria-Jaine Lincoln, founder of The Beauty Accountant. “I understand the challenges of managing time in such a demanding, client-focused industry, from my own days working in the salon and running my beauty business at home, and want to make the move to digital as seamless as possible, for all involved. These tools are not just about compliance—as with booking systems, bookkeeping systems can help professionals save time, reduce stress, and gain better insights into their finances and cash flow.”

The campaign is expected to run from February 2025 up to the new tax year in April 2025 and will include:

  • Webinars and guides tailored specifically to the beauty industry to highlight the benefits of digital tools and how to use them effectively.

  • Support partnerships with leading beauty brands and software providers offering exclusive discounts, resources and knowledge sharing.

  • Workshops and resources focusing on simple strategies for meeting quarterly deadlines without sacrificing time for creativity or self-care.

  • Accountability Sessions Group Accountability sessions will be offered at no extra cost to those that sign up for the February Masterclass for the duration of the campaign period.

For beauty professionals already using software, Digital Boost For Beauty will also offer advanced tips and tricks to maximise the value of digital tools, helping them to track income, manage expenses, and better plan for future growth. As a Quickbooks pro advisor, the first part of the campaign has a focus on MTD Software Quickbooks. Ria-Jaine has also signed up to the HMRC Beta testing team.

  • Quickbooks were the 1st to be recognised by HMRC as ITSA compliant

  • The BETA testing pilot for ITSA is live on QB and being fed back to HMRC

“The MTD transition is an opportunity to take control of finances, reduce administrative burdens and boost Success Day, leaving more time to focus not only on where Beauty Professionals spend the money but their heartbeats too!” added Ria-Jaine.
